This website is intended both to be an evolving illustrated companion to the Field Manual , presenting photographs of the species and their diagnostic features, and build on the foundation of the Field Manual by incorporating updates and new discoveries. We hope that distributing information through this website will allow us to regularly update our knowledge. On this site nothing is added to the flora or to any map without the supporting specimens having been individually checked and confirmed, both as to their identity and their status as wild plants collected in Michigan. We note this explicitly because the increased online availability of herbarium specimen label data, typically presented without having the determinations of the specimens checked, means that misidentifications that once slumbered anonymously in folders in herbaria are now enshrined in credible websites for all to see. This includes, unlike the published Michigan Flora , the spore bearing vascular plants ferns, horsetails, club mosses, etc. Information available includes maps showing the distribution of all the species in the state, keys to all the families, genera, and species, brief discussions about the species, including habitats, nativity, date of first collection of aliens, and in some cases, notes helpful to identification beyond the features noted in the keys.

We study the structure of heterosexual dating markets in the United States through an analysis of the interactions of several million users of a large online dating website, applying recently developed network analysis methods to the pattern of messages exchanged among users. Our analysis shows that the strongest driver of romantic interaction at the national level is simple geographic proximity, but at the local level, other demographic factors come into play.
We find that dating markets in each city are partitioned into submarkets along lines of age and ethnicity. Sex ratio varies widely between submarkets, with younger submarkets having more men and fewer women than older ones. There is also a noticeable tendency for minorities, especially women, to be younger than the average in older submarkets, and our analysis reveals how this kind of racial stratification arises through the messaging decisions of both men and women.
Our study illustrates how network techniques applied to online interactions can reveal the aggregate effects of individual behavior on social structure. Acknowledgements: The authors thank Travis Martin for useful conversations.

Out of your league? Study shows most online daters seek significantly more desirable mates even though the chances of getting a response are lower. The researchers applied the algorithm to anonymized data from users of a dating website in four major U.
The study is the first large-scale analysis to focus on hierarchies of desirability in online dating data. Among other things, it reveals how people behave strategically during online courtship by altering the length and number of messages they send to individuals at different levels of desirability. Of the four cities analyzed, the notable exception was the Seattle, where the researchers did observe a payoff for writing longer messages.

In fact, the majority of online daters seek out partners who are more desirable than themselves, suggests a new large-scale analysis by University of Michigan researchers published in Science Advances. The majority of people in these dating networks contact prospects who are about 25 percent more desirable than themselves.
